SPEAKER BIO:

Pat Murphy is a documentary filmmaker and professional film editor based in Los Angeles. He’s edited programs for major outlets like PBS, Showtime, and People magazine. As a producer, his films have been shown in museums, international film festivals, and in-studio on Channel 13 in New York City. His latest editing project is the critically acclaimed Showtime documentary, The One and Only Dick Gregory, about the legendary comedian and activist Dick Gregory. Pat started making Psychedelia in 2011, upon learning about the NYU Psilocybin Cancer Anxiety Study. He produced, financed, and distributed the film completely independently. Aside from filmmaking, he is an enthusiast for the outdoors, American history, and roots music.

Psychedelia Documentary:
The History and Science of Mystical Experience
COMING TO SAN DIEGO THEATER 2022!
The documentary chronicles the use of psychedelic substances in controlled research studies that began in the 1960s. The film tells the story of medical professionals who have re-introduced these compounds into a legal and growing field of study. It is a first-person account from a study on end-of-life anxiety exploring the profound, life-altering insights psychedelics induce in participants and what these insights might mean for society at large. There is a current expanding push to explore the efficacy of using psychedelics for several mental health disorders. Psychedelia has been independently shown at Telluride Mushroom Festival and at other local city events.
