Call for Fungus Fair Vendors and Volunteers!

We need you! As a non-profit organization our events are volunteer based. Please share your time with us to make it a success!
Our volunteer coordinator, Hoa, will follow up to confirm duties and timeslot.
We have a few spaces available for new vendors to participate. Please fill out the application and you will be notified if accepted.

Learn Basics Of Mushroom Identification

Please join us for the first meeting of 2025!

In preparation for the rainy season, we are practicing our identification skills during our upcoming meeting.
Our resident mycologist, Dennis Sharmahd, will help us to understand the common ways to identify fungi, which includes the relationships to plants and trees. Our goal is to have live specimens to help practice!
Our SDMYCO Secretary and Certified Naturalist, Mark Jenne, will share some of the identification keys that help to deduce which of the common fungi you are observing in San Diego.

The San Diego Mycological Society is happy to announce our Fungus Fair on Sunday, February 16, 2025.

Hope you all have a warm and happy holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

 

We’re happy to announce the expanded dates, which include workshops and forays on Friday, 2/14 and Saturday, 2/15!

Please join us on Sunday, 2/16 for our annual communal gathering filled with learning, sharing, & loving everything mushroom related!

Featuring food, art, speakers, crafts, live specimens, identification & more!

10am-4pm

Holiday Celebration Potluck & White Elephant Gift Exchange
December 2, 2024
Casa del Prado Room 101
6:30 – 8:30pm
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

We invite you to bring a delicious dish to share! It does not have to include mushrooms, but those are always a hit! You may also bring store bought if you prefer.

We will have a card to fill out in advance for the ingredients list. This is useful for those that may have allergies or dietary restrictions.
***If you are using wild/foraged mushrooms, please note that also!***

We ask that you bring your own reusable cup/bowl/plate and utensils, since we are environmental stewards. Let’s help promote and save the environment by using less plastic!

Please note that we do not have kitchen access, but there will be outlets for keeping food warm with crock pots.

For those that want to participate in the White Elephant Gift Exchange, please bring a present for the exchange (this is an optional activity). Mushroom themed items are always coveted and unique packaging can make the exchange even more fun.

Gift items are suggested at $25.

La Paloma Movie Screening: Music For Mushrooms

La Paloma Theater will host a special screening for East Forest’s new movie/documentary: Music For Mushrooms on Tuesday, October 8th at 7pm.

There will be a screening followed by a panel to answer questions, East Forest will be attending. This movie is about his music being used for having profound shifts while on mushrooms/ music for the psychedelic practitioner.

Else Vellinga is a mycologist who is interested in naming and classifying mushroom species in California and beyond, especially Parasol mushrooms. She has described 22 species as new for California. She got her training at the National Herbarium of the Netherlands, and her PhD at the university of Leiden.

Her interests go beyond taxonomy, and she loves natural history stories of all kinds of organisms. The mysterious world of spores is slowly being opened, and she likes to share the new developments in research and discoveries. Else describes herself as a Dutch, cat-loving, knitting mycologist, who lives in Berkeley, CA.
