October Meeting & Elections!

Mushroom Enthusiasts!!!

San Diego Mycological Society Season is upon us once again and, for the time being, we are resuming out Monday Monthly Mushroom Meetings in-person at Balboa Park Prado Room 101. (meeting page).

We will be following Balboa Park guidelines, which require everyone no matter vaccination status to wear a mask indoors. (Please see attachments)

We will also be spacing out the chairs to give people some distancing between participants. You don’t have to be a member to attend the meetings!

MEETING:

Monday, October 4th : The World is Your Oyster Mushroom! Development of Mushroom Festivals, Forays, and Camps.

SPEAKER BIO: Cassandra Ablola and Michelle Jachimowicz are long time members and volunteers for SDMYCO.  They are going to show and tell about the development of Mushroom Festivals, Forays and Camps as well as share their mushroom adventures at different Fungus Festivals & Forays. 

ELECTIONS:

We would also like to take this opportunity to call all enthusiasts that are interested in joining the SDMYCO Board!!! Elections will be held at our Monday Monthly Mushroom Meeting November 1. We have a few positions open, check the website for more details. SDMYCO board is a group of diverse and dedicated volunteers that gather to bring mushroom events, classes and workshops to San Diego. Board meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of the Month. We have tons of ideas we would like to see fruition and would love your help!

Steve Farrar with Fungus Among Us, TONIGHT! Plus, Events for October

Hello Mushroom Enthusiasts!

Here are some events for you to enjoy for the upcoming month!

TONIGHT!!

Head over to Wavelength Brewing Co. as Mycologist Steve Farrar will be at the Science Stage for a sequel to his 2019 talk “Fungus Among Us“. 

Did you know that San Diego County has a vibrant mushroom growing industry? Steven Farrar, also long time member of the SDMS,  has been a part of that industry for over 25 years, growing a variety of mushrooms for both culinary and health purposes. Mushroom cultivation employs a variety of sciences and technologies, including robotic mushroom farming. Come learn about the amazing world of fungi and its presence in our community. 

Again, that’s tonight, September 24th at 8 PM at Wavelength Brewing Co.

Hello Mycophiles!

Just a reminder about our July events, which include Fungi Film Fest coming up. Fungi Film Fest (FFF) is a collection of 30 short fungi related films from 14 different countries. SDMYCO will be hosting screenings over 2 nights. Members and non-SDMYCO members are able to participate in the film screenings!!!

FUNGI FILM FEST REGISTRATION
Register for the screening via EVENTBRITE.

  • $5 for each night, ~1.25 hours each night
  • DATES: Saturday July 17, 8pm Amanita
  •               Friday     July 23, 8pm Boletus

Open to members and non-members – tell your fungi friends!

Our next Monday Monthly Mushroom meeting is July 5 with Peter Mcoy, Laura Kennedy, and Jason Scott who will be speaking to us about the creation of Fungi Film Fest. Fungi Film Fest (FFF) is a collection of 30 short fungi related films from 14 different countries. SDMYCO will be hosting screenings over 2 nights. Register for the ZOOM Meeting and get your tickets for each viewing. Members and non-SDMYCO members are able to participate in the film screenings!!!

If you are not a member, please join to be able to attend our monthly meeting via zoom.
