Hello Myco Fam!

Happy National Mushroom Month!

🍄🍄🍄🍄 Mushroom season is here!!! We are so glad to have seen many of you during our summer events and we are excited to get back into the groove of our regular Monthly Meetings!
Kicking off is one of our own, Matthew Meyer, coming back to give us some info on what he’s been up to during his PhD!  He will be speaking about plant pathology and how fungi chemicals interact with other organisms.

Also, Here’s the upcoming season schedule. Can’t wait!

Mushroom Cultivation Class this 9/15 – No regular Monday monthly meeting

Hello Myco friends,

 

Attention… Coming in hot!!

An Intermediate Mushroom Cultivation Class with Eric Mueller, this coming Friday, September 15th.

Gain more understanding of mushroom cultivation in this intermediate class and take away a shiitake kit to practice your new skills!!

This is a members only workshop and members will receive the registration link for the class.

Teacher Bio

Darren Debergh is an internationally renowned chef who has captivated the culinary world with his innovative and inspired dishes. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Darren developed a passion for cooking at a young age, teaching himself the art of creating delicious and visually stunning dishes.

Despite his lack of formal culinary training, Darren’s talent and passion for cooking quickly caught the attention of food critics and diners alike. He gained recognition for his unique style and flavor combinations, drawing inspiration from his travels and experiences.

In 2013, Darren made the move to San Diego, where he joined kitchens the likes of: Searsucker, La Villa, & Bleu Boheme. Currently Darren is part of the team at Wild Thyme Catering. His expertise in the culinary arts and his passion for using locally sourced and sustainable ingredients have helped establish the catering company as one of the leading providers of gourmet catering services in the region.

In addition to his work at Wild Thyme Catering, Darren also serves as the head of research at D Squared Concepts, a cutting-edge food fermentation company. He uses his extensive knowledge of flavor profiles and culinary techniques to develop innovative new products that are changing the way people think about food and fermentation.

Darren’s passion for cooking and his commitment to using sustainable ingredients and practices have earned him numerous accolades and awards, including gold medals at prestigious culinary competitions such as Gold Medal Plates.

Today, Darren Debergh is widely recognized as one of the most talented and innovative self-taught chefs of his region. Teacher Bio

Dennis Sharmahd, Edible Landscaper, Herbalist, Mycologist grew up with rare fruits and an edible landscaped garden in Lemon Grove. He has been traveling in the American South West, Mexico and Brazil hunting for rare fruits, herbs, mushrooms and vegetables. He has also been collecting and growing rare cactus and other fruits at his small farm north of Escondido for over 30 years.

Collaborating to Conserve Biodiversity—One Kangaroo Rat at a Time

Who else but The Nat would jump at the chance to ensure kangaroo rats were safe from construction holes? When old power poles needed replacing in Warner Valley, the construction put the federally threatened Stephens’ kangaroo rat at risk. Our team stepped in to ensure the rats were minimally impacted.
